Before I Die
BEFORE I DIE...
It's easy to get caught up in the day-to-day business of life
and forget what really matters to us.
BEFORE I DIE is a global art project that invites
us to reflect on our lives and share our personal aspirations in a public space.
By picking up a piece of chalk and writing our thoughts and wishes on a BEFORE I DIE wall, we make a difference in our
own communities and in the larger community of humankind.
Originally created by artist Candy Chang on an abandoned house in her neighborhood in New Orleans after she lost someone she loved, the project took on a global effect.
Three years later over 425 BEFORE I DIE walls have been created in over 25 countries.
Inspired by this profound idea, artists Mary McGill, Sigrid Orlet and Marion Wood, have brought the BEFORE I DIE... community art project to Studio Channel Islands Art Center, Camarillo.
Our gratitude goes to "Twenty 88 Wine Bistro" who so generously funded the materials, and to everyone on and off campus who helped make this project a reality.
Follow the documentation of this interactive community art project on our facebook page “Blackboard Gallery Presents Before I Die.”
This wall is yours. Please, enjoy. Mary Studio D-3
