Artist Statement

I am so fortunate to have found my passion for the process and practice of ceramics.  Ceramics is one of the most complex art forms, with endless possibilities, and I never stop learning and experimenting.

I have a working studio at Studio Channel Islands Art Center at 2222 Ventura Blvd., in Camarillo , California.  Room B-2.  The studios have over 40 working artists who create sculpture, pottery, weaving, painting, and many other things.  On campus we have a beautiful gallery called Blackboard Gallery with amazing art shows, and also boast a gift shop..

My sculptural work continues to be female figures and feline figures within pottery vessels, and how they relate symbolically, narratively, and emotionally.  They are representational of the struggles, joys and journeys of life.  Inner joy and calm is expressed in a non-realistic or realistic style.  I use symbolism to evoke emotional responses in the viewer while exploring the dramatic twists and turns our life journeys can take.  My head is full of the reasons and meanings behind each piece, usually a convoluted combination of an experience with a myriad of emotions and thoughts that could be many words, but instead is this one piece.

Biography

A native Californian, I invested my early years raising three children and earning an interior design degree.  I began to develop my talent for ceramic art in 1997, while working in design.  I learned to throw on a wheel while attending Moorpark College in California, and continue to refine and explore my style and skill with my primary forces on hand-building.
